And that He, the Exalted, sent messengers and raised from His presence callers to guide the people and take them along the path of righteousness and uprightness, whose traces remain a guidance by which the reformers walk, and a beacon by whose brilliance generations are guided. He also accompanied them with heavenly Books and holy scriptures that rendered creation incapable of bringing the like thereof, and He included within them the verses of promise and threat, and the rulings of legislation and monotheism, and clarified therein the two paths: the path of guidance and the path of misguidance. He—Majestic and Exalted is He—said:[“Indeed, We guided him to the way, be he grateful or be he ungrateful.”] ¹ , and He—Majestic and Exalted is He—said: [“We have certainly created man into hardship. Does he think that never will anyone have power over him? He says, 'I have wasted wealth in abundance.' Does he think that no one has seen him? Have We not made for him two eyes? And a tongue and two lips? And have guided him to the two ways?”] ² —
