And the Ash'ariyyah debate them in this and dispute with them upon it, and say that the vision is possible on the day of return (yawm al-ma'ad). And the Imamiyyah and the Mu'tazilah believe that it is the looking of the heart, not the looking of the eye. And this is contrary to the rightness, because the looking is for the eye and the thought is for the heart. And there is not in the book of Allah - Exalted and Majestic is He - a metaphor (isti'arah), and rather the metaphor is in the poetry. And the looking does not fall except upon a body in the vision of the eye, because the body is an instrument for the manifest by it."

"And if the looking is possible according to them on the Day of Resurrection, so what is its state [why is it] that it is not possible in every era, time, period, and epoch? And what is the preventer from that? For indeed, whoever prevented the manifestation of power and the miracle, then he has surely belied the consensus (al-ijma') and the transmission (al-naql). And whoever belied the consensus and the transmission, then he is like one who rejected the witnessing (al-'iyan). Because the existents are upon two categories: from them is [what is] witnessed, and from them is [what is] absent upon which agreement has occurred. Like the saying of the sayer: 'In the world is a city called Jabarsa,' and the consensus has occurred upon its existence even if we have not witnessed it by witnessing, and it is only valid according to us by the report. And whoever prevented that, then he is like one who repelled that snow is white and blood is red."
