The First Vision: I saw myself standing looking into space, and suddenly I saw a bull, huge of body, long, big of head, swimming in space, heading toward the west, and after moments I saw a majestic, tall man, as the greatest of youth can be, wearing a black cloak and black trousers beneath it, wearing cavalry boots, and he was on his way behind the bull, so I asked one of the persons about this man and to where is his walking behind the bull? So he answered me: that he is the Commander of the Faithful, Ali bin Abi Talib, and that he is going to the setting of the sun so when I heard that, I could not contain myself from calling out: “Allah is greater, Allah is greater, I bear witness that there is no god except Allah, I bear witness that there is no god except Allah.”
And I intended by that my master, the Commander of the Faithful, and suddenly a person, as if he were a caller, said to me: “Congratulations to you, you are the only person from whom that emerged,” so I woke up while I was upon the greatest of joy and reassurance, and after a period of time whose exact measure I do not know, the idea of undertaking this treatise permeated me, and at that point I deduced that its composition is the interpretation of the mentioned vision, and Allah knows best, and that the saying of the caller to me: “Congratulations to you, you are the only person from whom that emerged” is an indication of the success that accompanied me in writing it, and that it is a unique model of its kind, and Allah is more knowledgeable, and to Him is the praise.
