So the King prolonged looking at it. Then indeed he said: "I have seen it with my sight, but as for my contemplation with the eye of my insight, it is not possible." So my Master said to him: "And why is that, O King?" He said: "Due to the strength of its light and its illumination. So this is what prevented me from my contemplation of it with the eye of my insight." So my Master said to him: "Then the inability is within you, not in the jewel, if it is existent and manifest." So the King said to him: "By Allah, it is exactly so." My Master said: "So what is it that you have attained of knowledge in this jewel?" The King said: "My knowledge of it has not reached other than its manifest (zahir). And as for its hidden (batin) so its perception and the reaching to its knowledge is concealed from me, due to the weakness of my strength and my inability. For indeed, it is not within my capacity to know concerning it other than its radiating manifest [aspect] from it."
My Master said: "So do you find between it and its light a difference or a separation?"
The King said: "No."
My Master said to him: "So if the light extended, expanded, spread, and individuated (tashakhkhasa), and manifested power, then would the power which the light manifested be by a strength from the jewel or by its [own] strength?"
The King said: "This is precluded and not possible, because all of what manifests from the light, if it individuates, of power or wisdom, then it is by a strength from the jewel."
My Master said to him: "So if this individuating light, which is the manifest (zahir) of this jewel, called to its self, and commanded the world with its obedience, and summoned them to its worship, would the answerer be mistaken in his answering or correct?"
The King said: "Correct."
My Master said: "So it is incumbent upon whoever answered it that he knows the meaning (ma'na) of this manifest light."
