And the Prince of Poets, Ahmed Shawqi, said in an urjuzah [poem] of his:

As for the Imam, he is the radiant face, the guide,

The protector of the den of truth and struggle (jihad).

The root of the Chosen Prophet and his branch,

And his religion after him and his law.

And his two sides, advancing and retreating,

Both in battle and when he ascends the pulpit.

And let us suffice with this amount of the sayings of the poets, men of letters, and scholars reported concerning [the fact] that our Master, the Commander of the Faithful, is the Capable (al-Qadir) and the Subduer (al-Qahir). And let us introduce concerning him some of the other philosophers, such as the German "Nietzsche" and those who adopted his principle.

For these do not believe in the existence of the Deity as is the case and belief among Islamic religionists—in the sense that He is the Necessary Existent by His essence (Wajib al-Wujud li-dhatihi), and that He is the First before every first without beginning, and the Last after every last without end,
