And indeed, every time I invited them that You may forgive them, they put their fingers in their ears and covered themselves with their garments and persisted and were arrogant with [great] arrogance.'”] 1 .
Indeed, this chosen elite, supported by a supernatural divine power, was only calling to the embracing of easy, clear principles in comparison to the difficult, deemed difficult [matter] that is with us. Indeed, it was calling to the belief in the existence of Allah, Glory be to Him, and the performance of righteous deeds and the required obligations.
And indeed, those who were called at that time to this belief and deeds—most of them refused to submit to the true call of the messengers, and they refrained from embracing their tolerant, clear principles, and they resisted the call and the callers with various methods and the utmost violence.
For there were found peoples and groups who resisted the prophets and denied acknowledging the existence of a Wise Creator, [even though] all the created things in the universe point to His existence, the Exalted. If the existence of those whose attributes and stances are such is established,
