And when they dug two cubits, a great rock appeared. So the Commander of the Faithful moved it aside himself, and steps appeared beneath it. So he ordered Salman to descend into it. So Salman descended, and came out and informed Ali that when he descended thirty-five steps, a locked door of iron appeared and he did not know where its key was.
He said: So the Commander of the Faithful brought out a key from his turban and gave it to him and said: "Descend and open the door and bring us the water." So when Salman descended and opened the door, he found a basin full of water, and suddenly Ali was standing on the edge of the basin! So Salman became bewildered by that.
So the Commander of the Faithful took the cup and filled it from the basin and said: "O Salman, take this cup and return to the army and give them to drink from it." So Salman took the cup and went out to them, and he found the Commander of the Faithful standing with them exactly as he was. And Salman wanted to reveal what he had seen, so he bit his lip and said: "Have you forgotten the incident of Dasht Arzan, so what are you wondering at?" So Salman remained silent. Then the Commander of the Faithful took that cup and gave the entire army to drink with it, and the water, despite its abundance, did not decrease by anything. This hadith and the one before it are also mentioned in the book "Sahifat al-Abrar" and the book "Ali from the Cradle to the Grave" (Aliyyun min al-Mahd ila al-Lahd) by Sayyid Muhammad Kazim al-Qazwini.
