[261] And from it: That the Commander of the Faithful passed on a road and a Khaybari [Jew from Khaybar] traveled alongside him. So he passed by a valley that had flooded, so the Khaybari rode his cloak and crossed over the water. Then the Khaybari called out to Ali - majestic is his praise - : "O you, if you knew what I knew, you would have crossed just as I crossed." So the Commander of the Faithful said to him: "[Stay in] your place." Then he gestured to the water and it froze while he was upon it. So when the Khaybari saw that, he fell upon his feet and said: "O youth, what did you say until you turned the water into solid ice?" So Ali said to him: "And what did you say until you crossed over the water?" So the Khaybari said: "I called upon Allah by His Greatest Name." So the Commander of the Faithful said: "And what is it?" He said: "I asked Him by the name of the legatee (wasi) of Muhammad." So the Commander of the Faithful said: "I am the legatee of Muhammad." So the Khaybari said: "Indeed it is the truth," then he submitted [embraced Islam].
