Clarification (Idah): Our Master said: "I have with me the keys of the unseen," and the Righteous (al-Barr) said: ["And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him"] 1 . And in the saying of our Master - exalted is his might - : "none knows them after the Messenger of Allah except me," is a dissimulation (tawriyah) and a covering (taghtiyah), with the meaning that none knows them after the absence of the Messenger of Allah other than me, not with the meaning that the Messenger of Allah knows them before me, because interpreting it like that contradicts with the meaning of the content of the verse. For Allah - majestic is His praise - negates the knowledge of the keys of the unseen from everyone and restricts them to Himself by His saying: "none knows them except Him". So if no one encompasses their knowledge other than Him, and He is the Creator, then how is it made available for the Messenger to know them while he is a created being by Him?

And after he mentioned concerning himself by the saying of Allah upon his tongue: ["And if I knew the unseen, I would have acquired much good"] 2 .
