And from his saying in the first half of the first poetic verse, "I have indeed possessed the knowledge of the first ones, and indeed I am," is evidence of divinity (uluhiyyah), by the evidence of the Almighty's saying: "And that Allah has encompassed all things in knowledge." Just as we understand from the second half in his saying,

"Stingy with the knowledge of the last ones, keeping it concealed," we understand his encompassing of the knowledge of the last ones as well as the first ones from one perspective, and from another, in the form of concealment and preserving the secret, as I have previously mentioned in the second chapter in the discussion concerning the esoteric (al-batin).

And from his saying in the second verse, "And the uncoverer of the secrets of the unseen things in their entirety," meaning in their totality, is the strongest proof that he is the Eternal, the Pre-existent, by the evidence of the Almighty's saying: ["[He is] Knower of the unseen, and He does not disclose His [knowledge of the] unseen to anyone"] 1 . For the total knowledge of the unseen is restricted to Allah alone, and the knowledge of a part of it in relation to the creation occurs through the gift and the emanation from the Creator. And the Commander of the Faithful explicitly declares his encompassing of the unseen matters in their entirety, not just a part of them.
