Then the Commander of the Faithful followed his speech by saying: "Praise be to Allah, the Creator of the souls and the Originator of the nations." Then he said: "Ask me before you lose me, for indeed between my two sides are sciences like the overflowing seas. Ask me about the paths of the heaven, for indeed I am more knowing of them than the paths of the earth." Then the firmly rooted among the scholars and the perfected among the close friends (awliya) rose to him, kissing the places of his feet and swearing to him by the Greatest Name to complete his speech. So the sea of the firmly rooted and the leading scholar of the gnostics, the Victorious Imam, said: "The master of the Muhammadan banner and the Ahmadan state will appear, and he will pave the earth and revive the Sunnah and the obligation."
Then he said: "O you who are veiled from my affair and heedless of my state, indeed the wonders are the traces of my thoughts, and the strange things are the secrets of my inner mind. For I have pierced the veil, and I have manifested the marvels, and I have opened the treasuries of the unseen things, and I have clove the subtleties of the hearts, and I have uncovered the gnostic truths of the subtle matters, and I have encoded the subtle matters of the gnostic truths."
Then he recited poetry, saying:
I have indeed possessed the knowledge of the first ones, and indeed I am
Stingy with the knowledge of the last ones, keeping it concealed.
And the uncoverer of the secrets of the unseen things in their entirety,
And with me is a discourse, newly originated and old.
And indeed I am the sustainer (qayyum) over every caretaker (qayyim),
Encompassing all the worlds, Knowing.
