[191] And from the book Al-Muhtadar, authored by Sheikh Hasan bin Sulayman Al-Hilli, the student of the First Martyr, from the scholars of the seventh century, on the authority of the Master Messenger (exalted be his might), when he was taken on the night journey, from his saying: "So my Lord called me: 'Draw near, O Muhammad. I am your Lord, I am Allah.' So I drew near, and my Lord spoke to me from behind a veil with speech as if it were from the tongue of Ali bin Abi Talib. So it stirred in my secret (inner self) that Ali is addressing me. Then He called me: 'O Ahmad, I have looked upon your secret; you thought that Ali is addressing you. O Ahmad, I am your Lord, I am Allah, and I am over all things competent.

Do you love that I show you Ali?' I said: 'Yes, by Your might, O Lord.' So He commanded the veils of the heavens to be pierced and to open, and whatever was elevated from the earth to be lowered, and whatever was lowered to be elevated. So I looked from the throne of my Lord to the earth, and I saw the light of Ali, and Ali was standing praying."

Elucidation (Tabyin): The Lord addressed His Messenger with the tongue of Ali, "and the Lord is none other than Ali," and He did not will to show the Prophet Himself in His essence, the impenetrable unseen. This is because the light of the abstract Divinity cannot be firmly endured to be seen by the creation. But He showed him His essence in the form of Ali while he is standing ...praying, just as He made him hear His speech from the tongue of Ali while He was addressing him: ["And it is He who is God in the heaven, and God on the earth. And He is the Wise, the Knowing."] 1

[192] And from it: And it was narrated therein on the authority of Abu Dharr, may the pleasure of Allah be upon him, who said: The Messenger of Allah (exalted is his might) said:
