Verily, the return (ma'ab) is to you, and the account (hisab) is upon you... etc. 1 "

Elucidation (Bayan): The Messenger (exalted be his might) explicitly declares that the return (ma'ab), meaning the point of return (marji'), is to Ali, and the account is upon him. And Allah says in His decisive Book: ["Say, 'I have only been commanded to worship Allah and not associate [anything] with Him. To Him I invite, and to Him is my return.'"] 2 And by His saying (Glorified be He):[ "Indeed, to Us is their return. * Then indeed, upon Us is their account."] 3

[190] And from it: His saying (exalted be his might): "Where is the remover of agonies from my face?" He intends by it our Master, the Commander of the Faithful.

Footnotes

1On the authority of Abu Abd Allah, from his father, from his grandfather (exalted be his might), who said: The Commander of the Faithful, Ali bin Abi Talib (exalted be his might), delivered a sermon upon the pulpit of Kufa, and among what he said was: "By Allah, indeed I am the judge of the people on the Day of Judgment, and the distributor between Paradise and the Fire. No enterer will enter it except upon one of my two divisions." Source: Tafsir Furat al-Kufi. Our Master, the Commander of the Faithful (majestic is his praise) said: "I am the judge of the religion. I will surely ride the clouds, and I will surely strike the necks, and I will surely demolish Iram stone by stone, and I will surely sit upon a stone of mine in Damascus, and I will surely afflict the Arabs with the affliction of deaths."
