[186] And from it: And the Messenger of Allah (exalted is his might) said to Hudhayfah bin al-Yaman: "O Hudhayfah, indeed Ali is the proof (hujjah) of Allah. Faith in him is faith in Allah, disbelief in him is disbelief in Allah,

associating partners with him is associating partners with Allah, doubt in him is doubt in Allah, deviation (ilhad) concerning him is deviation concerning Allah, and denial of him is denial of Allah. Two men will perish concerning him, while he bears no sin: an extremist lover (muhibb ghalin) and a hateful detractor (mubghid qalin)."

Clarification (Tawdih): In the final sentence of the Messenger's words (exalted is his might), "Two men will perish concerning him," etc., lies a secret due to his clear declaration of the divinity (uluhiyyah) of our Master in this hadith, serving as both an exoneration (bara'ah) and a veil over the eye of the denier who falls short (al-muqassir al-munkir).
