Clarification (Idah): The meaning is: had they agreed upon his worship. The evidence for this is what was mentioned in the Noble Quran upon the tongue of our Master Abraham: ["So when the night covered him [with darkness], he saw a star. He said, 'This is my lord.' But when it set, he said, 'I like not those that disappear.'"] 1 The commentators explained it to mean "I do not like the worship of those that disappear," meaning, "I do not worship those that disappear." And He (Mighty and Majestic) said: ["And I did not create the jinn and mankind except to worship Me."] 2 So when they denied his recognition (ma'rifah) and turned away from his worship, the Fire was a recompense for them.
