and the angels on that Day are obedient to his command and prohibition? Let the observer ponder this speech of our Master al-Sadiq.

❖ From Surah Az-Zumar ❖

The First Verse: [“And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, behold, they rejoice.”] 1

This is an allusion to those hostile, hateful individuals who bore the utmost enmity toward our Master—Exalted is His might—and followed those beneath him among the leaders.

Thus, they were—and still are—if our Master—Exalted is His might—is mentioned before them, they become disgruntled and angry. But if their own Imams, the heads of hypocrisy, are mentioned, they rejoice and are glad. The "Hereafter" here is the day of the appearance of the Awaited Qa'im al-Mahdi for the manifestation of Unveiling and Proclamation.

They do not believe in him and denounce the matter of his rising, despite the successive evidences for that from the speech of the Messenger—Exalted is His might—and the Infallible Imams—Exalted is His might.

The Second Verse: [“Lest a soul should say, ‘Oh, how I regret my neglect in the side of Allah, and that I was among the mockers.’”] 2

1Surah Az-Zumar – Verse 45.From our Master al-Jawad, from his forefathers, who said: The Messenger of Allah—Exalted is His might—said: "The mention of Ali bin Abi Talib is an act of worship. Among the signs of the hypocrite is that he shrinks away from his mention and prefers listening to false stories and the legends of the Magians over listening to his virtues." Then he recited: “And when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in the Hereafter shrink with aversion, but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned, behold, they rejoice.” When he—Exalted is His might—was asked about its interpretation, he said: "Do you not know that the Messenger of Allah used to say: 'Mention Ali bin Abi Talib in your gatherings, for his mention is My mention, and My mention is the mention of Allah.' Therefore, those whose hearts shrink from his mention and who rejoice at the mention of others are those who do not believe in the Hereafter, and for them is a humiliating punishment." He said: "Tell me what he says." I said: "He says regarding the saying of Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He—‘And when Allah is mentioned alone,’ [it means] the Commander of the Faithful, blessings of Allah be upon him; ‘but when those [worshipped] other than Him are mentioned,’ [it means] so-and-so and so-and-so." Abu Abd Allah—Exalted is His might—said: "Whoever says this is a polytheist toward Allah—Exalted and Majestic is He" (repeating it three times). "I am innocent of him before Allah" (repeating it three times). "Rather, Allah meant..."In this hadith, al-Sadiq—Exalted is His might—manifests taqiyya (precautionary dissimulation), as evidenced by the previous narration reported from al-Jawad—Exalted is His might—from his forefathers, and among his forefathers is al-Sadiq—Exalted is His might—and they are all one.
