Truly, our master the Commander of the Faithful was rich in his Essence and attributes, praiseworthy in his words and deeds. He needed no one, while all people were in need of him in their various affairs and circumstances. He was the reference for everyone in solving arduous problems, drafting sound plans,

and answering ambiguous questions, to the extent that when the Messenger—Exalted is His might—was burdened by a matter or a distress descended upon him, he would call out: “Where is the fulfiller of my promise and the remover of my distress?” Among the sayings of Umar bin al-Khattab, who is known for his opposition and enmity toward the Commander of the Faithful—Exalted is His might—is his saying: “Were it not for Ali, Umar would have perished,” and, “There is no difficult problem for which Abu al-Hasan does not have [the solution].”
