The Third Verse: [“Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment.”] 1 This is an allusion to those who opposed our master the Commander of the Faithful—who is Allah—and His Messenger—who is Muhammad—and undertook to defy and quarrel with them, especially our master the Commander of the Faithful after the occultation of the Messenger—Exalted is His might. They abundantly inflicted harm upon him in action and speech, and their harm returns to them, such as the usurping of the caliphate, the seizure of Fadak, the striking of Fatima, the attempt to burn the house upon her, the waging of war against him, and the direct act of cursing him from the pulpits, to the end of the evils that emanated from them.

Footnotes

1Surah Al-Ahzab – Verse 57. And His saying: “Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger - Allah has cursed them in this world and the Hereafter and prepared for them a humiliating punishment,” [it is said] it was revealed regarding those who usurped the right of the Commander of the Faithful—Exalted is His might—and took the right of Fatima—Exalted is His might—and abused her. The Messenger of Allah—Exalted is His might—said: "Whoever abuses her in my lifetime is like one who abuses her after my death, and whoever abuses her after my death is like one who abuses her in my lifetime. And whoever abuses her has abused me, and whoever abuses me has abused Allah; and this is the saying of Allah: Indeed, those who abuse Allah and His Messenger." (Tafsir al-Qummi)
