due to the Messenger—Exalted is His might—having disparaged their dreams and beliefs, and due to the power and prosperity that Islam and its people had achieved. However, they—the Confederates—returned on their heels, enfolded in the rage they had brought with them, having not attained their objectives, and their hearts were not satisfied regarding the Muslims, as a result of the slaying of their leader and the focus of their hopes for victory, 'Amr bin 'Abd Wudd, at the hands of our master the Commander of the Faithful. Regarding him, the Messenger—Exalted is His might—said at the moment of his duel with the disbeliever: “All of Faith has come out against all of Polytheism,” and when he slew him, he said: “The strike of Ali against 'Amr is equivalent to the worship of the two worlds [Jinn and Mankind].”

The sentence “And sufficient was Allah for the believers in battle” explains that our Master relieved the believers of the burden of war by his killing of the leader of the clique of disbelief and misguidance.
