Al-Sharif al-Radi, the compiler of the book Nahj, said: “I say: al-Wadhah is the beetle. This saying alludes to al-Hajjaj, and he has a story with the beetle which is not the place to mention here.” And Sheikh Muhammad 'Abduh, the commentator of Nahj, mentioned: “Al-Hajjaj saw a beetle crawling toward his prayer mat, so he drove it away, but it returned. He drove it away again, and it returned. He took it in his hand, and it stung him, causing his hand to swell. A fever seized him from the sting, which destroyed him. Allah killed him with the weakest and most insignificant of His creatures, etc.”

Our Master informed about al-Hajjaj (may Allah curse him), his deeds, and his end, knowing that the birth of al-Hajjaj was about a year after our Master manifested his occultation (ghaybah).

[99] Also in the book Nahj, he—Exalted is His might—said, informing about Kufa: “As if I see you, O Kufa, stretching like the stretching of the 'Ukazi hide; you shall be buffeted by calamities and ridden by earthquakes.”
