[95] It was narrated from al-Harith al-Hamdani and Muhammad bin Salim, from al-Hasan the Grandson (al-Sibt)—Exalted is His might—who said: “The people were struck by drought, so they complained to him—meaning the Commander of the Faithful—and they had nothing but hardship. He went out, and we went out with him to pray for rain. He whispered words that were not understood, raised his hand, and prayed for rain. He had not yet returned his hand to his chest before the rain came, and it continued for days, to the point that the people were distressed by that and they complained to him of the excess of rain, so he gestured with his hand and said—Exalted is His might: "Around us and not upon us," and the clouds parted from the sky, becoming surrounding like a circle, and the sun appeared while it continued to rain outside the city.”
Similar to this is what he performed of sending down rain 1 upon the people of Bani Darim, as they had requested it of him.
