The First Verse: [“And whoever submits his face to Allah while being a doer of good - then he has grasped the most trustworthy handhold; and to Allah will be the outcome of [all] matters.”] 1

[88] In the book Al-Fitrah, there is a hadith regarding the Ascension (al-Mi'raj), narrated from the Messenger of Allah, after some words: “Then I was ascended to the sixth heaven, and the angels said to me the like of what their companions had said. I said, 'O angels of my Lord, do you know us with the true knowledge of us?' They said, 'And how could we not know you, while Allah created the Garden of Paradise, and upon its gate is a tree, there is not a leaf upon it except that upon it is a letter written: "There is no deity except Allah, Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and Ali bin Abi Talib is the most trustworthy handhold of Allah, and the firm rope of Allah, and His Eye upon all creation."'”

The Eye of Allah is His Essence, and His Face is His Essence; so he is too exalted to have an eye or a face like created beings. It is stated in the dictionary: “And the eye (‘ayn) of a thing is itself; it is said, ‘He is bi-‘aynihi,’ meaning he is in his essence (bi-dhatihi).”

The Second Verse: [“And if whatever trees upon the earth were pens and the sea [was] ink, replenished thereafter by seven [more] seas, the words of Allah would not be exhausted.
