[86] Ibn Abbas said: I counted those who arrived, and they were one short. While I was thinking about this, Uways al-Qarani arrived. (And among them) is that a man came to the Commander of the Faithful—Exalted is His might—and said: “O Commander of the Faithful, I passed by Wadi al-Qura and saw Khalid bin 'Urfutah had died, so ask for forgiveness for him.” He—Exalted is His might—replied: “He has not died, and he will not die until he leads an army of misguidance, whose standard-bearer is Habib bin Jammaz.” A man stood up from beneath the pulpit and said: “O Commander of the Faithful, I am one of your Shi'a and I am one who loves you.”
He asked: “Who are you?” He replied: “I am Habib bin Jammaz.” He—Exalted is His might—said: “Beware of carrying it, and you shall indeed carry it and enter with it through this door,” and he gestured with his hand toward the Bab al-Fil. When the Commander of the Faithful—Exalted is His might—passed on, and al-Hasan his son passed on after him, and the affair of al-Husayn happened as it did, Ibn Ziyad sent Umar bin Sa'd to al-Husayn and placed Khalid bin 'Urfutah over his vanguard and Habib bin Jammaz as his standard-bearer. He marched with it until he entered the mosque through the Bab al-Fil, etc.” The reader will be astonished when he views his words regarding the unseen matters in their place within his sermons and sayings.
The Third Verse: [“And say, 'Praise to Allah. He will show you His signs, and you will recognize them. And your Lord is not unaware of what you do.'”] 1 His signs are a metonymy for the miracles, powers, wonders, and wisdoms that He has manifested and will show in His manifestations, especially the seventh of them.
