but Allah refuses except to perfect His light, although the disbelievers dislike it.”] 1
This is an allusion to those who used to fabricate accounts and hadiths attributing virtues to the opponents of the Imam, attempting to obliterate the accounts and hadiths that demonstrate his virtues and miracles. It reached the point where, driven by their stubbornness and disbelief, they deliberately set out to curse him openly, and that became an inherited custom among their oppressive descendants and wicked followers. However, despite their resentment, the Exalted perfected His light through what He manifested of divine power and lordly sciences that are recorded in various books and diverse narrations.
And it has been reported from some of the exoteric scholars—some say it was Al-Shafi'i, and others say Ibrahim al-Nazzam the Mu'tazilite—who said: “What can I say about a man whose enemies concealed his virtues out of hatred and envy, and whose lovers concealed his virtues out of fear and awe, yet from between these two there has emerged that which has filled the East and the West (al-khafiqayn)!”
