So Al-Khidr said: “What is this?” He said: “It is saying: ‘Our knowledge, and the knowledge of all the former and the latter peoples, in comparison to the knowledge of the legatee (Wasi) of the Greatest Prophet, is nothing but like this drop in this sea.’”
The Third Verse:[“And if they should see every sign, they will not believe in it.”] 1
This is an allusion to those wicked disbelievers who witnessed the miracles of our master—exalted is his praise—with their own eyes yet did not believe in them. Such as the returning of the sun, the splitting of the moon, the reviving of the dead, speaking to animals and trees, the knowledge of the unseen, and similar matters. All of these are mentioned in their respective places within the books of the people of the exoteric (ahl al-zahir), both among the Shi'a and the Sunnis.
The Fourth Verse: [“And [recall] when We said, 'Enter this city and eat from it wherever you will in [ease and] abundance, and enter the gate bowing humbly and say, "Relieve us of our burdens."
