The address in the word “Say” is directed to the Master Messenger—His might was mighty—meaning: Say, O Muhammad, O people, I cannot tell you that I possess the hidden things and the secrets of the knowledge of Allah,
just as I do not perceive the knowledge of the unseen, on the basis that this is tied to Allah alone.
This is evidenced by the saying of the Exalted in the same Surah: [“And with Him are the keys of the unseen; none knows them except Him. And He knows what is on the land and in the sea. Not a leaf falls but that He knows it. And no grain is there within the darknesses of the earth and no moist or dry [thing] but that it is [written] in a clear record.”] 1
