It has been established from the speech of the Messenger—His might was mighty—that “the faith”

(al-iman) is our master—sublime is his remembrance. This is grounded in his saying—His might was mighty—when the Master—sublime is his remembrance—stepped forward to face Amr bin Wudd al-Amiri: “The entirety of faith has stepped forward to face the entirety of polytheism.”

Faith represents the Creator, the Exalted, on the basis that it is the gathering point of all virtues and beauties, just as the Creator, Glory be to Him, encompasses all absolute, perfect attributes and actions; whereas polytheism represents Iblis, the chief of devils, on the basis that each of them is the gathering point of vices and evils. The validity of this is proven by the saying of the Exalted in Surah An-Nisa: [“Indeed, Allah does not forgive association with Him, but He forgives what is less than that for whom He wills. And he who associates others with Allah has certainly gone far astray.”] ¹ , and His saying—Exalted is His praise—in Surah Muhammad: [“Those who disbelieve and avert [people] from the way of Allah - He will waste their deeds.”] ² .
