[57] And from it, it was narrated that the sun was returned for him during the lifetime of the Messenger of Allah—His might was mighty—in Mecca. The Messenger of Allah was unwell, so he placed his head in the lap of the Commander of the Faithful, and the time for Asr arrived. He did not stir from his place and position until the Prophet awoke and said—His might was mighty—: “O Allah, indeed Ali is in Your obedience, so return the sun for him so that he may pray Asr.” Thereupon, Allah returned it for him white and pure until he prayed, and then it set.

It was also reported that he returned it at Siffin while the war was ongoing between his army and the army of Mu'awiyah—may Allah forsake him.

This is similar to its return by our master Joshua bin Nun during his war against his enemies after the absence of Moses—His might was mighty—up to the end of what has been reported of traditions proving the return of the sun from the exoteric books, which inspired many poets to sing of that, which I shall bring forth in its proper place during one of the coming chapters, God willing.

[The First Verse: “Indeed, from Allah nothing is hidden in the earth nor in the heaven.”] 1

[“Say, ‘Whether you conceal what is in your breasts or express it, Allah knows it. And He knows what is in the heavens and what is in the earth. And Allah is over all things competent.’”] 2
