Then he said: ‘Call the Adhan, O Juwayriyah.’ I said: ‘O Commander of the Faithful, the Isha prayer is not yet due.’ So he—His might was mighty—said: ‘Call the Adhan for Asr.’ I said to myself: ‘Shall I call the Adhan for Asr when the sun has already set?

Yet, obedience is binding upon me.’ So I called the Adhan, and he said: ‘Call the Iqamah,’ and I did so. Suddenly, while I was in the midst of the Iqamah, his lips moved with words that sounded like the chirping of swallows; I did not understand what it was.

Then the sun returned with a great screeching sound until it stood still in its central position for Asr. He stood, proclaimed the Takbir, and prayed, and we prayed behind him. When he finished his prayer, it fell as if it were a lamp dropped into a basin, vanished, and the stars intertwined. He turned to me and said: ‘Call the Adhan for Isha, O you of weak conviction (ya da'if al-yaqin).’”
