And among them is:[“Have you not considered the one who argued with Abraham about his Lord because Allah had given him kingship? When Abraham said, ‘My Lord is the one who gives life and causes death,’ he said, ‘I give life and cause death.’ Abraham said, ‘Indeed, Allah brings the sun from the east, so bring it from the west.’ So the disbeliever was overwhelmed [with astonishment], and Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”] 1

When Nimrod claimed divinity for himself during the era of the Master Abraham, the Close Friend (al-Khalil)—His might was mighty—and the Master Abraham was calling toward the worship of Allah, the One. This matter necessitated their meeting for a discussion around the subject. Among what the Close Friend of Allah said to the disbelieving Nimrod was: “Indeed, Allah gives life and causes death, so are you capable of that?” Nimrod replied: “Yes.” Then he ordered two men from his subjects who had been sentenced to execution to be brought forward; he killed one of them and pardoned the other, saying: “Here, I have caused this one to die and given life to this one.” When the Master Abraham saw what he saw of Nimrod’s stupidity, he answered him: “Indeed, Allah brings the sun from the east, so are you able to bring it from the direction of the west?” At that time, the disbeliever stood before this definitive challenge, astonished and bewildered.
