And when Mu'awiyah gained control over the water of the river, his soldiers barred the army of our master the Commander of the Faithful—His might was mighty—from approaching the water. Yet, when our master drove them away from it with his irresistible charge and the water came under his possession, his companions requested to bar Mu'awiyah's army from approaching the water in return. He did not accept that, saying to them: “Take what you need from the water and return to your camp, and leave the space between them and the water, for Allah has granted you victory because of their transgression and oppression.” And among them is: “Do they await except that Allah should come to them in shadows of clouds and the angels and the matter is judged?
And to Allah all matters are returned.”
It was reported in Sahih Muslim what textually states: “Abu Ghassan Muhammad bin Amr al-Razi narrated to us, saying: I heard Jarir saying: ‘I met Jabir bin Yazid al-Ju'fi, but I did not write from him because he used to believe in the Return (al-Raj'ah).’” And it came within the interpretation of that in the footnote of the Sahih, where the commentator stated: “He—meaning Jabir—used to believe in the Return, meaning the return of Ali—may Allah ennoble his face—in the clouds, etc.” It is well-known that Jabir al-Ju'fi was among the greatest of the close, chosen companions of the pure Imams—their might was mighty. Were he not correct in his belief and justified in his principles and statements, they would not have drawn him close to them. To us, he is the most noble Gate (al-Bab) to our master Muhammad al-Baqir—His might was mighty—and the belief he held regarding the return of the Commander of the Faithful—His might was mighty—from the clouds, meaning his coming in the shadows of clouds according to the content of the verse, was only derived and verified by him from the effusion of his master and Imam, al-Baqir.
