Is it not permissible in His right, the Exalted, from the aspect of kindness to the servants—and kindness is from His characteristics—that He pardon them in one of the two matters, and He is the Forgiving, the Merciful, and that He grant them bounty in one of the two abodes, and He is the Bountiful, the Generous? Indeed, the saying of this is divergent from what came from Him, the Exalted, in His Mighty Book, since it became clear to us from His speech—Exalted is His praise—that the disbelievers are the ones given bounty in the world, the ones punished in the afterlife, and that the believers are the ones deemed weak in the world, the ones given bounty in the afterlife, by the evidence of His saying, the Exalted, pointing to the disbelievers: [“So let not their wealth or their children impress you. Allah only intends to punish them through them in worldly life and that their souls should depart while they are disbelievers.”] 1 , and His saying:[“Indeed, Qarun was from the people of Moses, but he tyrannized them. And We gave him of treasures whose keys would burden a band of strong men; thereupon his people said to him, "Do not exult. Indeed, Allah does not like the exultant."”] 2 ,
and His saying, Glory be to Him:[“Let not the alternation of those who disbelieve throughout the land deceive you. * [It is but] a little enjoyment; then their refuge is Hell, and wretched is the resting place.”] 3 , and His saying: [“Allah has certainly heard the statement of those who said, "Indeed, Allah is poor, while we are rich."”] 4 This is with respect to establishing that the disbelievers are given enjoyment in the world, punished in the afterlife.
As for what relates to the believers, those deemed weak in the world, the inheritors in the afterlife, His saying, the Exalted, indicated it:[“And We wanted to confer favor upon those who were oppressed in the land and make them leaders and make them the inheritors”]. 5
[3] And it was narrated in the Gospel from the Master Messiah—His might was mighty—his saying: “Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. Blessed are you when they revile you and persecute you and say all kinds of evil against you,”
