[45] And in the thirty-third chapter [Exodus 33:7-11]: “And Moses took the tent and pitched it outside the camp, far from the camp, and called it the tent of meeting.
And it used to be that everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting which was outside the camp. And whenever Moses went out to the tent, all the people would rise and stand, each at the door of his tent, and look after Moses until he entered the tent. And when Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the door of the tent, and the Lord would speak with Moses. And all the people would see the pillar of cloud standing at the door of the tent, and all the people would rise and worship, each at the door of his tent. And the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his companion. And when Moses returned to the camp, his servant Joshua the son of Nun, a young man, would not depart from within the tent.”
And I ask the impartial reader: How does one interpret the sentence: “And the Lord would speak to Moses face to face, just as a man speaks to his companion”? Furthermore, is it not clear to him, and does he not see the example of the manifesting Lord who spoke to Moses face to face—and whom the children of Israel worshipped—that He is our master Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, and the master of the people is their servant?
