There is nothing like unto Him, since the "Thing" is from His Will, and the Will is His Power. [And He is] 1 the Light that emanated from His Essence without being separate from Him; the Light manifested a radiance that did not separate from it, and the radiance manifested a shadow. Thus, He established the [form] 2 of existence within the shadow and the radiance, making the inward aspect of the shadow to be the radiance, and the inward aspect of the radiance to be the Light—while the Essence remains subsisting by its Essence. And that is His saying, the Exalted: "Have you not considered your Lord how He extends the shadow, and if He willed, He could have made it still? Then We made the sun a guide thereto." 3

It means whatever of the Essence was within it. Thus, the Anza'i form is the very essence of the radiance and the shadow, and it is that which has not changed in the ancient of epochs, nor in what occurs of [time] 4 ;
