Therefore, the Name is our Lord, the Gate is our Creator and Sustainer, and the Meaning is our God, our Master, and the Lord of our first forefathers.
And our first forefathers are: our master al-Miqdad, peace be upon him; our master Salman, peace be upon him; and our master Muhammad, His glory is magnificent.
[14]The witness to this is the saying of the Master Jafar al-Sadiq, His glory is magnificent, to al-Mufaddal, peace be upon him: "Indeed, your Pre-eternal, Ancient Master willed—without thought or notion—the manifestation of the Will (al-Mashi'ah) and the creation of the Will for the Thing, and these two are the Mim and the Sin."
The meaning of this is that the Will is the reality of the inward aspect of the Name, which is Muhammad the Greater, His glory is magnificent. The "Thing" is the outward aspect of the Mim, majestic is His mention, and the Mim here is Muhammad the Lesser; while the Sin, peace be upon him, is the inward aspect of the Shadow. This entirety constitutes the reality of the inward aspect of the Name, while the Meaning (al-Ma'na), the Exalted, is self-subsisting, transcendent above His names and attributes.
