[since the Creator does not manifest except by His very self]1 —He does not manifest in a created form. So how can a human say: "Indeed, the light of the Essence is the Anza'i form," when the Name is originated (muhdath) relative to its Creator? How then can the Eternal manifest through an originated entity?!

Ponder, O Sheikh, how the people of merit exalted the Creator above every created, originated form, and above every name and description. Even our saying: "O God, O Beneficent, O Merciful"—are these not, O Sheikh, names that possess a meaning upon which they fall, while the One named by them is greater and more ancient than them? Every name is originated and created except the Name of the Creator which is the Veil (al-Hijab), because it is an essence self-subsisting by itself. As for the names of [the Meaning for identification and expression] 2 , they are [letters] 3 disconnected and connected, like our saying: Abel, Seth, Joseph, Joshua, Asaph, Simon, unto the completion of the Seven.
