[9] And among that which indicates that the light of the Essence is the Name itself is His saying, His glory is magnificent: "There is nothing greater than the Holy Spirit except that which descends into it." And that which descends into it is that which is veiled within it, and it is that which is not perceivable, and that the Name upon which sights do not fall, when attributed to [the Essence, is not known except that it is the Holy Spirit in its entirety] 1 .
[10]And I possess concerning it a report narrated on the authority of one of the children of the Sheikh, who said: "As for his saying: 'A sheath within the core of a sheath,' this and its likes apply to the Name and the Gate when the Name manifests through the Gate, thereby becoming a sheath within the core of a sheath."
Thus, the Spirit (al-Ruh) is the inward reality of Muhammad, His glory is magnificent, and it is the light of the Essence; while the Holiness (al-Qudus) is Muhammad, His glory is magnificent, and it is the body. That which descends into it is the knowledge of the Creator, descending from the Meaning to the Name, and it is that which sustains it.
