Look, O Sheikh, at the one who is among the wise men of the Persians, who did not see [Umar ibn al-Khattab] 1 except at that time, yet he knew that he is an alterer and a changer of the laws and an utterer of other than the truth, while you claim that you are a believing man, an Imam of a region, and a knowing guardian, [and you spent] 2 your life associating with this adversary, whereas your sheikh [commended you that] 3 you do not associate with him, nor attend his council, nor disclose to him any speech of monotheism, yet you hint to him of the greatest secret you possess? While I am a man who acknowledges the guardianship of the Commander of the Faithful, His glory is magnificent, and you conceal from me what you broadcast to the adversaries, and you make a debate against me and broadcast it in the [lands] 4 [and you come to demand it from me] 5 , while you know to whom you delivered it, so he said: It has reached me that it is with you, and you do not profess it as a religion due to your departure from my obedience,
