Whoever recognizes the Commander of the Faithful, His glory is magnificent, and bears witness to His Lordship, has established Him across all manifestations. The scholar only employs complex, ambiguous discourse during a confrontation or a direct dispute [with] 2 a person who possesses no true knowledge. In such a case, the scholar needs to make the discourse intricate for him in order to expose the adversary's incapacity. Upon showing such incapacity, the scholar pronounces his disbelief, saying: "You have disbelieved." Such speech is not without an underlying exposition; rather, its true exposition is understood by the people of knowledge and entirely veiled from the people of ignorance. This was the true cause behind what transpired with me at the beginning of the debate, and we have fully clarified the explanation of what had escaped his mind.
