As for us, we have not been held accountable except for what we recognize. Regarding the past stations that have preceded us, [there does not remain] 1 with us of them except their names. As for upholding their boundaries and religious laws, [they are not binding upon us when] 2 we recognize that their Master is One. Were it binding upon us to uphold their boundaries, it would have been obligatory for us to pray with the Christians and fast with their fasting, and to stand with the Jews in what they practice, as well as with the Abrahamists and others among the masters of the prophetic laws.
