"The third indication" regarding the esoteric meaning of the iqāma: Know, O brother, that the ruling of the iqāma is different from the ruling of the adhān in the esoteric sense, and that is due to the impermissibility of separating it from the prayer, whereas it is permissible to separate the adhān from the prayer.

It has another aspect: the iqāma stands in the place of the adhān, but the adhān does not stand in the place of the iqāma. The esoteric meaning of this is: the adhān is the station of the Sīn, as we have previously mentioned when it is manifest in its essence, and the iqāma stands in its place when the Veil appears through it. Therefore, it is not permissible to separate between them and the prayer, because when the Mīm appears through the Sīn, its ruling ceases; for the "Gate-ness" (al-bābiyya) within the "Veil-ness" (al-ḥijābiyya) is like a stream in a sea—it is only called a stream when it departs from it, but when it returns to it, that naming ceases. The iqāma only stands in the place of the adhān because the Veil fulfills both the "Veil-ness" and the "Gate-ness," while the Gate does not fulfill the "Veil-ness." The removal of the doubling from it (the iqāma) is because the adhān, as we have previously mentioned, is the call of the Sīn to the Mīm.
