As for its esoteric meaning, it is the indication of the Meaning (al-Ma‘nā) to His Essence upon the creation of the First Veil (al-ḥijāb al-awwal) and His call to the "Meaning-ness" (al-ma‘nawiyya); and the call of the Veil to the Gate (al-Bāb), and the call of the Gate to the Orphans (al-Aytām) towards the knowledge of the Meaning, the Veil, and the Gate. For this reason, the magnification (takbīr) was legislated four times in the adhān to alert the creation to the precedence of the response in the first calling. This is because when the Greatest Orphan appeared with his luminosity to the Proclaimed (al-Munabba’)—who is the greatest of the seventeen Proclaimed ones—so that he might elevate himself, he magnified him (kabbara-hu).
And he said: 'This is my Lord.' Then, when his star set beneath the radiance of the Moon of the Gate during its manifestation to him, he said: 'This is my Lord.' Then, when the Sun of the Veil manifested, the Moon of the Gate set beneath the radiance its light, he said: "This is my Lord; this is greater." Then the Meaning (al-Ma‘nā) manifested to him, and every existing thing beneath the radiance of His light vanished from him.
