it is obligatory for him to recognize through his limbs and organs what corresponds to them in the Luminous World. These sensible organs point to the reality of the non-sensible ranks because physicality is stripped away from those ranks; the non-sensible ranks existed before the physical observers could describe their essences through the stations of Divine Manifestation (Tajallī).

Know that every rank in the Luminous World holds a "judgment" or "governance" in the cosmos equivalent to the function of the organ that signifies it in the body. We shall mention only what God has specifically designated for washing, so as not to deviate from our purpose of explaining the prescribed acts of worship.

The Inward Significance of the Face

The Face is the indicator of the First Veil (al-Ḥijāb al-Awwal), which is the Face of Pre-eternity. The face’s indication of him stems from the fact that it is the "Niqab" (veil/mask) of the soul; the soul's meanings appear through it, and its perfection is revealed from it.
