Know that manifestation is of two kinds: Manifestation of Displacement (Ẓuhūr Ifrāj) and Manifestation of Temperament (Ẓuhūr Mizāj).

Manifestation of Displacement (Ifrāj): This is the appearance of pure luminosity and the Seven Essentialities—from Abel (Hābīl) to the [Essence] ‘Ayn-Ali.

Manifestation of Temperament (Mizāj): This is the appearance as the middle rank between the two ranks of Light and Darkness. Within this rank, it is said: "Essential, Archetypal, and Mingled."

The Essential (al-Dhātī): This is the station where occultation (ghayba) and appearance (ẓuhūr) occur within each of these three previously mentioned stations.

The Archetypal (al-Mithlī): This is the "Prayer of the One" (al-Aḥad) upon His Name, the "Single" (al-Wāḥid),
