The Gate is that which created the Five Orphans (al-Aytām) by the power of the Will (al-Mashī’a) manifested within it. Likewise, the Five Stations of the Great Luminous World emerged rank by rank; and from the final rank, all other beings beneath them were formed.
I have only mentioned this so that the servant may know the Intermediaries (al-wasā’iṭ) between himself and his Creator, the Truth. There is no way to know these stations except through Him, and the gnosis of Him is only valid through His Essence (Dhāt).
His Essence cannot be known except through witnessing Him (ru’yatih), and witnessing Him is not possible except through His Self-Manifestation (tajallī).
His manifestation cannot be perceived in its totality, because manifestation occurs according to the strength of the one gazing upon it. Its meaning is the lifting of the veil—the Veil of Darkness—from the sight of the beholder, so that he may witness from the Essence of the Manifested according to his capacity, within the limit of his incapacity and the fatigue of his vision in witnessing the Light of Divinity (Nūr al-Lāhūt),
