pertaining to the Essentialities of the One (al-Aḥad), and its Likenesses at the station of His Name "The Single" (al-Wāḥid); and the Essentialities of the Name and its minglings within the stations of Unity (al-Waḥdāniyya); and the Essentialities of Unity from the beginning of the Cycle to the end of the line. For these are the origin of True Gnosis: a tree with a firm root and a towering branch, whose fruit cannot be attained except by raising the hands of petition toward its pure branches.
Its root is Pre-eternity (al-Azal), and its branch is Eternity (al-Abad), and its fruit is the Everlasting (al-Sarmad). These Three Ranks are what the People of Monotheism (Ahl al-Tawḥīd) have expressed as the Meaning (al-Ma‘nā), the Name (al-Ism), and the Gate (al-Bāb). The Sages (al-Ḥukamā’) have expressed them as the Creator (al-Bāri’), the Intellect (al-‘Aql), and the Soul (al-Nafs). It is through the gnosis of these [ranks] that all other things are known.
The Meaning among these three ranks is the First Truth, who originated the First Veil. The First Veil is that which created the Gate.
