This occurred after He bestowed upon the commissioned ones (al-mukallafīn) an ability sufficient for the obligation and the power to forgo it.
The witness to this is the saying of the Exalted: {God does not task a soul except according to its capacity} 1 , in order to sever any excuse for failing to uphold it. He made that commissioning a completion of His generosity upon the people of His existence, since eternal bliss and everlasting life are contingent upon what God has commissioned His servants with regarding Gnosis (al-Ma‘rifa).
For through Gnosis, souls emerge from the darkness of ignorance into the light of the Intellect, by means of the realities of Divine secrets and the Luminous Beings (al-ashkhāṣ al-nūriyya) who extend their powers to the souls of the righteous. That is the abiding pleasure and the contented life. Therefore, the commission of Gnosis was the perfection of existence, due to the attainment of the souls' possible perfection which cannot be achieved without it.
