The meaning of this is the creatures' turning in terror toward their Creator through prayer (al-tahajjud) to ask Him to bestow His favor upon them by sending the rain in which the sustenance of bodies grows.
Its esoteric meaning is: the Knower’s plea—during the absence of the gates of disclosure and knowledge and the dominance of the authority of ignorance—through prayer to his Creator to rescue him from the dark world and to revive his soul with the Holy world.
Toward this, the indication occurred in the Almighty’s saying, narrating from Noah—may his glory be exalted: "And I said, 'Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in abundance'" 1 . That is: repent to your Creator, and He will relent toward you and send upon you the "Water," which is the reality of the Message—and he is the person of the "Sky"—with the knowledge whose pleasure never ceases and whose duration never ends.
