This happens in some regions of the earth by his manifesting incapacity in confronting the Opposite, and the occultation by manifesting killing, crucifixion, and the consumption of poison, as occurred in the station of Abi al-Khattab—peace be upon him—and others in the stations of intermingling and purely Nominal manifestations, such as the station of our Master the Messiah—may his glory be exalted. This is because the outward moon is an indication of the Gate (al-Bab), and the sun is an indication of the Veil (al-Hijab).
The meaning of the prayer during the occurrence of such an event is the purification of them both from what they have manifested therein, and the belief that such [events] actually occur to their opposites.
Indeed, the explicit Remembrance (the Quran) has spoken of this in the Almighty’s saying: "And they did not kill him, nor did they crucify him, but another was made to resemble him to them" 1 .
