His glory is mighty, and said to him: "Did you see your Lord when you worshipped Him?" He said to him: "Woe to you! I would never worship except what I see." The man said to him: "How did you worship Him?" He said: "Sights do not perceive Him, while He perceives the sights; and the eyes do not see Him by way of encompassing limitation, but rather the hearts saw Him through the realities of faith."
Explanation of that: The hearts affirmed the Power from the aspect of what appeared from the abstract [detached] form; because when the sights looked at the power manifesting from the form, the hearts affirmed the Power and negated the form. Then he said: "And indeed, the Commander of the Faithful, His glory is mighty, is Allah—and [this is] the firm, perfect gnosis which is neither mixed with opacity nor has any ultimate goal beyond it."
[95] And Al-Sadiq, His glory is mighty, said: "Know, O Mufaddal, that the manifest [Al-Zuhur] is the perfection of the inward [Al-Butun], the inward is the perfection of the potentiality [Al-Quwwah], and the potentiality is the perfection of the action [Al-Fi'l]. Whenever the totalities of wisdom are not perfect in their inwardness and complete in their manifestation, they are deficient; and indeed, the Wise One is All-Powerful."
